When she was a kid in her old home town
Her mom said to her on her face a frown
"You are only a girl with dolls for toys
Don't dream of the things which are just for the boys"
And she went to school and she studied so hard
She loved science but she kept her guard
And at home she baked cookies and dreamt of the day
When she would fly to the stars far away

And she didn't do what they said she ought
For she became an astronaut
At last for her she found her place
Among the stars in outer Space
And she's flying high, reaching out for the sky
She said:"I'm gonna be ME, I've just got to be free

At and last it was there the day she left school
She told them at home with a voice cool as cool
"I won't wait for a man and dance at the plaza
I got a job, I'll be training at NASA"

And she didn't do what they said she ought ...

Time passed so fast, she was good, a success
Graduated, qualified - "cum laude" - no less
It was tough, was a rat race, she held on to her dream
Went on her first mission, was part of the team
Now she lives on her mem'ries, waits on the ground
For the next Spacelab mission, her place to be found
In the Shuttle of glory, the challenge supreme
For all womenkind the ultimate dream
